Tea and "The 4-Hour Work Week"

So... I'm taking half the day to just slow down and not think about work. My life has been so busy the past few months. Busy is good but I do wish I was more busy doing things that excited me. I've been reading this book called, The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss. I'm probably only a quarter-way through the book, and I'm hooked. I highly recommend this to anyone who may be in a situation where they feel they need more time to do what they enjoy. Its just changing my whole thought process about complying to "rules". Very interesting.

Anyway, I wanted to give an update on my passion for beneficial, herbal tea blends. Sounds kind of random, I know lol, but I'm just gonna keep going with my thought .... For most of the month of Novemeber, I was in China working on our Q3 development. For some reason, while I was out there, the topic of "tea" came up A LOT. I always drink green tea (almost everyday) while I'm in the office in NY. But in China, we have it with just about every meal. Its cool because green tea is so healthy for you. This trip, I think I tried 3 more different kinds of tea. My favorite was this Indonesian tea we had on my bday. It was sweetened (with idk what), but chinese tea is rarely served that way. Iced Oolong tea is bangin too. I even saw them mix it with the drinks in the club haha.

I'm learning a lot and I think the knowledge can come in handy soon. Today, I decided to blend together some loose green tea I brought back from China, with a spicy chai blend (already in a bag) + honey for sweetness. It came out really good. It smelled like a cozy day too lol. Just don't let the spicy chai steep for too long. It makes the tea too bold.

Remember my post about "Making herbal tea with the girlies "? Last night, I ordered 10 more bags of herbs. When they come in, I'm going to try to make a healthy herbal tonic. Def excited. I'll keep you posted :)

My Thoughts 12/5

(My head has been in the clouds)

Last year, I remember writing a post, titled, "My thoughts". Every once in a while, I go on this hiatus from social media, just to bring myself to some level of solitude. I try to quiet down the noise I guess. I think everyone needs it from time to time and it usually happens to me in the months leading to my bday, (Nov. 15) through New Years day. I start to build this level of desire for change. It's almost like I have to build a higher step for me to try to climb up on, so that I feel I'm constantly progressing and gaining a higher level of knowledge. More importantly, its a way for me to zoom out and bring myself back down to earth. Realizing that you're just a tiny piece to a huge picture is a big thing. Every piece is important and people should treat each other this way. I feel that I've been on a journey for some time now and that God has put me in a position to make some bigger decisions for myself. It's all a test at the end of the day and I'm grateful for it.

Some of the things I'm going to be blogging might get a little deep, but that's nothing new and I encourage everyone to comment since I don't have a FB anymore lol.

I've had a lot on my mind lately, so I'm curious to see how it's going to come out in the next few posts lol. Stay tuned :)

"When a problem arises, don't fight with it..."

I got this from a book titled, Zen in the Martial Arts, by Joe Hyams. I'm not even halfway through this book and I feel like I've learned a lot already. I'm actively evaluating myself as I'm reading this and its motivating me to do better. This is definitely going in my "favorites" archive. I recommend it to everyone because the book isn't about martial arts. Its about taking the mental and physical discipline that is learned in martial arts and applying it to your life and experiences.

Artwork Collab: TashLeake X Jarid Andrew

Yayyyy so this is the start of something spectacular lol. Jarid and I did our first collaborative piece. It was very spur of the moment and we've been talking a lot recently about collaborating on a photography/fine arts piece. I had some art supplies in my room, so we just put our heads together and came up with this :) . Check the progression... LOVE IT! This might have to stay in my room lol

We started out with a blank canvas (18x24, I believe) and 4 pieces of foam.. 2 were taped together the long way.

Then we began to cut. I should have taken a pic of the make-shift exacto knife we made. It DEF did its job... even tho I got cut lol. This was fun because we pretty much free styled the whole thing.

The next step was the paint job. The colors were carefully chosen because you have to have the right balance of emotion when choosing them. I started from one corner and Jarid started from the other... and we met in the middle. You can see how our two styles collided.

After the paint dried, we assembled our foam pieces on top to create a bold contrast with the color. I think it came out so DOPE. Both of our foam cut outs were a result of creative expression and there's some meaning behind some of the shapes. There's even a couple subliminal formations there that may have to be pointed out if you don't catch them right away. We did this pretty quickly... I don't think I've ever done this before haha... I LOVE IT :) Can't wait to do some more!

For those of you who don't know Jarid Andrew, he's a VERY TALENTED photographer.. and just an all-around great person with crazy positive energy. Follow him: @JaridAndrew ... His portfolio site is launching soon, so look out for it.

[Random Useful Knowledge] "The most wasted of all days..."

Laughter is said to be the best medicine. I know I'm in a great mood, this morning, because of it. I blogged about how laughter in the past... maybe a few years ago, but I never really went in depth about the benefits. Here they are, to list a few:

1. As a person laughs, a number of changes occur in the body. The muscles in the face and body stretch and the rate of heart beat rises. Laughter also causes a person to breathe faster, which in turn brings more oxygen to the tissues. Helping the body fight certain diseases, laughter reduces health problems connected with strokes, high blood pressure, ulcer, and arthritis.

2.  15 minutes of laughter equals the benefit of 2 hours sleep.

3.  Laughter is good exercise. you can get the same benefits from laughing 100 times a day, as you can from 10 minutes of rowing.

4.  Laughter releases endorphins into the body with the same exhilarating effect as doing strenuous exercise.

5.  Stressed individuals have higher levels of a hormone called cortical. Studies show that laughter lowers cortical levels in the body, which makes laughter a natural stress buster. Much of the stress we experience is related to how we think. Laughing after an embarrassing mistake you made, for example, is far less stressful than losing sleep or remaining stressed over it.

6.  Laughter increases energy levels. Feeling tired or run down? Have a good laugh. Laughter is a natural pick-me-up, which may provide the energy and time needed to do things that might otherwise be avoided.

If anyone has any funny videos they want to share, I'm down to watch... this is the funniest one I've seen in a minute so I thought I'd share (even though I saw it a while ago... thanks Blogzworth) lol

"Do not believe in anything simply because..."

Exactly...  Can't say that I'm Buddhist but this is REAL. We're all given the power of choice and the ability to ponder. Don't be a follower just because other people are doing it, even if it's your own family members. When you begin to believe in something, make sense of it... challenge it until you can't challenge it anymore; and if there's any holes in that knowledge, attempt to find the missing piece. If it doesn't exist, leave it alone. Seek complete truth and nothing else. The truth will always prevail.
